Caddx's New FPV System: The Buzz and the Reality Check

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

Caddx has recently unveiled their second-generation FPV Goggles X, designed for the Avatar HD system. While they’ve promised an upgradable RF module and hinted at a version two system arriving by August 2024, let’s not get our hopes too high—March 2025 is likely to be just as uneventful. The latest teaser from Caddx has stirred excitement, but alas, it seems we’re in for yet another underwhelming product instead of the anticipated upgrade.

In a recent Facebook post, a Caddx product manager waxed lyrical about transforming HD digital transmission for the FPV crowd. However, it appears they might have mixed up ‘revolutionise’ with ‘confuse’, as compatibility issues have reared their ugly heads. Existing setups, including the Goggles X, are left out in the cold, and some users are understandably miffed at being sidelined.

They’re talking about a phased release to meet various FPV needs, yet the new system reportedly won’t even play nice with what’s already on the market. The whispers suggest a Wi-Fi basis for the new hardware, though Caddx insists it’s not OpenIPC. A bit of a leap of faith if you ask me, given all the speculation swirling about.

So, while Caddx attempts to position this new offering as an entry-level delight, it’s clear many current users are feeling rather let down. As always, tread carefully in the world of low-cost digital FPV systems—cheap doesn’t necessarily mean cheerful.
