Low Light Showdown: DJI O4 vs. O3 vs. Walksnail Moonlight – Who Will Shine Brightest?

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

In a valiant attempt to determine which drone reigns supreme in low light conditions, Joshua Bardwell subjected the DJI O4 Pro, O4 Lite, and Caddx Moonlight to a series of tests (that sounds far fancier than it is). The testing was done under controlled conditions—no flying around like headless chickens. Instead, the drones were fixed, pointing at a wall, with lighting gradually adjusted to see how they fared when things got a tad gloomy.

The results are a bit of a mixed bag. The O4 Pro emerged as the clear victor, managing to handle extreme ISO levels without turning the image into a noisy mess. Meanwhile, the O4 Lite and O3 both showed decent performance, though nothing to write home about. The Caddx Moonlight, despite its rather optimistic name, didn’t quite shine in comparison—more of a flickering candle in a blustery wind, if you will.

For those with a penchant for FPV flying, the Walksnail Pro Camera stole the show, particularly in what Bardwell aptly dubbed “zero light” conditions. If you fancy cinematic filming, a shutter speed of 1/120 paired with an appropriate ISO setting is recommended for achieving pleasing results.
