O4 Air Unit with Goggles 2: Is It Just as Bad as It Sounds?

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

In a recent escapade into the world of FPV, Joshua Bardwell has taken a closer look at the O4 Air Unit when paired with the Goggles 2. The burning question—does this combo leave much to be desired, or is it actually decent? Spoiler alert: it’s not as dire as one might think.

Notably, the O4 manages to hold a steady 50 megabits per second, mirroring the performance drop-off points seen with its predecessor, the O3. While one can’t expect it to outshine the Goggles 3, it certainly doesn’t embarrass itself alongside them. In fact, while navigating bends and obstacles that would have sent the O3 scrambling for cover, the O4 exhibits commendable stability, maintaining a minimum of 15 megabits per second—rather impressive for a unit that could easily have turned into a complete farce.

Bardwell concludes that while the experience with the Goggles 2 isn’t revolutionary, it certainly isn’t a train wreck either. If you’re content with your current setup, there’s little reason to rush off to splurge on the latest bits of tech. However, if you fancy a bit more oomph and are fond of chasing those higher bit rates, perhaps a cheeky upgrade to the Goggles 3 might just be in order.
