Order #702419 - Iflight Nazgul Xl5 Eco 6s Freestyle Fpv Quadcopter - Stripped screw from factory over-tightened screw will not allow repair

Order Number: 702419
Product Name: Iflight Nazgul Xl5 Eco 6s Freestyle Fpv Quadcopter
Brand: iFlight RC
Crashed Nazgul drone, landing on front arm, snapping it. Tried to unscrew bolt holding the arm (by hand - not even using powered screwdriver), but the hex hole rounded straight away, leaving the bolt stuck in the frame, and me unable to change the arm.

I am not claiming product fault with the snapped arm, though it was not a hard crash yet it still snapped, but the bolt rounding has made it impossible to replace the broken arm, and is defective.
I have attempted to remove the screw using an appropriately sized bit, and attempted to remove the upper frame and standoff from the other end, to try and free it up, but this did not work, as the standoff is pressed into the lower frame by the bolt.

Sorry to hear about that, it can be very frustrating when this happens! However there are a few things you can try to get it out:

  • Torx Bit Method
  • Gently tap a slightly oversized Torx bit into the rounded hex hole.
  • The Torx bit’s star shape may grip the softer metal of the bolt head.
  • Once seated, carefully attempt to unscrew the bolt.- Left-Hand Drill Bit
  • Use a left-hand drill bit slightly smaller than the bolt’s diameter.
  • As you drill, the counterclockwise rotation may catch and unscrew the bolt.- Screw Extractor Set
  • Drill a small pilot hole in the center of the bolt.
  • Insert a conical screw extractor into the hole.
  • Turn the extractor counterclockwise to remove the bolt.- Dremel Tool Technique
  • Use a Dremel with a cutting disc to create a slot across the bolt head.
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the bolt.- Drilling Out the Bolt
  • Start with a small drill bit and gradually increase size.
  • Drill out the bolt head, being careful not to damage the surrounding frame.
  • Once the head is removed, you can extract the remaining shaft.- Heat Method
  • Apply heat to the bolt using a soldering iron or heat gun.
  • The expansion and contraction may break the bond.
  • Attempt to remove the bolt while it’s still hot.

Hope that helps!
