Order #705365 - Walksnail Avatar Hd Mini Air Unit Vtx V3 - Dead after powering

Order Number: 705365
Product Name: Walksnail Avatar Hd Mini Air Unit Vtx V3
Brand: Walksnail
Dear Unmanned Tech Team,

I recently connected my new VTX unit to my Speedybee FC, which I have been using with the DJI Vista system with no issues. Upon connecting it to the flightcontroller with a 3S battery, the unit overheated, and smoke was emitted, which I initially assumed was due to reversed polarity.

However, I’ve since double-checked the setup and confirmed that the polarity is correct and that the FC is set to 5V (verified with a multimeter). I also tested the same setup with both the DJI Vista and Walksnail V2 units, and both systems worked fine, ruling out any issues with the wiring or FC.

While I acknowledge that there is always a possibility of user error, I genuinely believe the issue may be with the VTX unit itself. Could you please assist with any troubleshooting or provide guidance on how we can move forward from here?

Thank you for your support.

Graham
As mentioned previously, I have check the voltage on teh FC and used other VTX’s which are all working.

Sorry to hear about this, could you please add a photo showing how the VTX was hooked up/wired to your FC so I can pass this onto Caddx engineers to get their feedback and see if we can arrange a replacement for you if they agree there could be an issue. Otherwise they may ask for a few more details.

How would you rate our customer service?

Kind Regards

Alex

Hi Alex,

I did take photos, I have attached:

  1. The speedybee FC soldered to Vv (Which has been set to 5V) and the R5 and T5.

  2. to the other end of the wire I soldered a connector, which I have added hot glue to secure the wires.

I have just plugged in my other mini I use on my quad. (I re-checked the voltage and connected it.) and that works fine - proving the wiring.

But please pass on to Caddx.

Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham good day,

We received the following feedback from Walksnail:

Thank you for your efficient description of the problem
But we checked the pictures and found that the positive pad of the 1s v3 vtx was severely burned and fell off. This does not seem to be a product problem, but more like a burn caused by the reverse connection of the positive and negative poles
We have tested every vtx at the factory to ensure that the vtx is powered on and works normally when it leaves the factory.
We do not deny that the vtx may be damaged or defective during the package transportation process, causing the customer to receive it badly, but even if the vtx is damaged during transportation, it will not cause the vtx to be damaged to the extent of the customer when it is powered on
We deeply regret that the customer’s vtx was damaged, but we cannot directly replace the customer with a new vtx because we suspect that the customer has reversed the positive and negative cables or connected the positive and negative cables to the RX and TX lines

Unfortunately we will not be able to replace this unit based off of the response from the manufacture.

I do apologies, that we were not able to assist you further.

If there is anything else I can help with please do let me know?

Regards,
David
