The Compass will not calibrate in iNav

Order Number: 695772
Product Name: M100-5883 Gps
Brand: HGLRC
The Unit is connected to a Speedybee F405 V3 using iNAV 7.1. The GPS works Fine. The Mag shows RED in the iNAV configurator and CLI status says mag not available.
The M100 SCL is connected to the FC SCL using the Grey wire an the M100
SDA is connected to the FC SDA using the White wire.
I believe therefore the unit is faulty unless you can advise otherwise.
The cable to connect the M100 has been cut to enable it to be soldered to the FC
I had the drone flying satisfactorily last week using a BN-880 GPS and Compass. That unit is slow to lock onto satellites. So I decided to invest in the M100-5883 to get better performance in Position Hold and speed of GPS lock. I have not changed the wiring and therefore assume the suppled cable was satisfactory.

Hi good day Ivor,

Your wiring and soldering looks really nice and neat, can’t see any issues with that.

Have you managed to calibrate the compass?

How would you rate our customer service?

Hi

I have tried several times to calibrate the compass.

The Mag indicator on iNav 7.1 stays red constantly suggesting no Mag connected .The GPS works Fine.

You can see by the color of the wire in the photos that SDA is Connected to SDA and SCL is connected to SCL.

I believe I have done everything correct.

My next step would be to connect back the original BN-880 to check the fault is with M100-5883 GPS supplied.

The SpeedybeeF405V3 was supplied by yourselves

Can you please advise.

Ivor

Hi Ivor,

Can you tell me what set up you have done in inav for this unit?
Also, if you place the unit further away from electrical noise and plug it into inav does it detect? It is just above your VTx currently, and those produce a massive amount of EMI.

Hi,

The only power that goes to the Drone is by USB hence all motors Vtx are none powered so There is no electrical noise .

When the inav configurator 7.1 is connected via a PC by USB at the top of the screen I get the following text.

GPS(Blue) ACCEL(Blue) MAG(Red) BARO(Blue) GPS(Blue)

Which says there is no Compass fitted.

When my old BN-88o is fitted MAG shows Blue.

A RED MAG indication shows that there Is no MAG to be calibrated. i.e the MAG is faulty.

I have a good understanding of electronics as I was Head of Guided Weapons Electronics at British Aerospace Filton employing 85 graduates on Guidance Missile Computer designs until I retired.

The unit is definitely faulty unless SDA and SDL are labeled wrongly (which I doubt).

Ivor

Good morning Ivor,

You are correct, hence my question regarding setup in iNav. The old and new units you are using run different chip sets so if you didn’t update and match the new units chip set accordingly in the configurtor, it would indeed go red, as you are telling it to look for the wrong chip.

If you would rather return the unit, let me know and I can assist with that?

Hi,

MY APOLOGY

After your last reply I watched some youtube videos

. I then did an auto search for the MAG and instead of the 5883 it came up with QM5883.

The MAG now works.

Sorry for the multiple emails, but it was my fault for not doing an AUTO check for MAG.

Thank you for your patience and help.

I hope my information might help if you get similar problems with another customer.

Case closed.

Regards
