Toolkitrc M8p- Incorrect balance port voltage readings

Order Number: 695390
Product Name: Toolkitrc M8p 600w 20a 1-8s Balance Dc Multi-Function Charger
Brand: ToolKitRC
first time use of the charger with an 8s lion battery. The charger won’t charge as it’s reading the balance voltages incorrectly.
The charger shows the correct balance voltages for cells 1,2,3, 6 and 7 correctly but shows voltages for cells 4,5 and 6 incorrectly.
A DMM shows all the cells correctly at around 3.3V.
I checked the charger’s readings against those I get with two DMMs. The DMMs show the correct voltages.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the issue you are experiencing with your ToolKitRC M8P charger. We understand how important it is to have your equipment functioning correctly, especially during your first use.

Based on your description, it seems that the charger is misreading the balance voltages for cells 4, 5, and 6 while accurately displaying the voltages for the other cells. Since you have confirmed the correct voltages using two different digital multimeters (DMMs), it appears that the issue may be related to the charger itself.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Connections: Ensure that all connections between the battery and the charger are secure and free from corrosion or damage. Sometimes, a loose connection can lead to inaccurate readings.

  2. Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your charger. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve bugs or issues with voltage readings.

  3. Voltage Calibration: Calibrate the voltages on the battery as we often find ToolkitRC chargers require this, we have a basic guide here -

How to calibrate the Voltage on ToolKit Rc charger along with some steps below

Manual Voltage Calibration M8P

1. Prepare the M8P:

Ensure the M8P device is powered off.

2. Enter Calibration Mode:

Press and hold the [roller]. While holding the roller, connect the power supply. The system will automatically enter manual voltage calibration mode.

3. Measure Actual Voltage:

Use a voltmeter to measure the actual voltage of each battery.

4. Adjust Voltage Values

Move the cursor to the corresponding voltage value displayed on the M8P

Adjust the displayed voltage to match the voltmeter readings.

5. Save the Calibration:

Move the cursor to “Save”.

Short press the roller once. The buzzer will beep once, confirming the save is successful.

6. Finish Calibration:

Exit or power down the M8P to complete the process.

If you have tried these steps and the issue continues, please let us know. We may need to explore further options, including potential repair or replacement of the charger.

Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to assisting you further.

Thanks for your reply.

  1. I’ve checked all the connections and they’re all good.
  2. The firmware as shipped was V3.0. I’ve done as you instructed and upgraded to V3.02 which I got from the ToolkitRC web site. There is no change in the bad readings on balance ports 4,5 and 6.
  3. I tried to re-calibrate as you suggested. It works fine on ports 1,2 and 3 and 7 and 8 but does not work on 4,5 and 6.
For example, I can only lower port 4 from the erroneous 5.402V down to 5.14V. At that point turning the thumb-wheel has no further effect as the ADC no longer changes beyond 46970.
